헤이스팅스: 노르만 정복과 헤이스팅스 전투
본 글은 잉글랜드 내 ‘기억의 장소’ 중 하나인 헤이스팅스, 그리고 그 장소와 관련된 역사적 사건에 대해 살펴본다. 헤이스팅스가 ‘기억의 장소’인 이유는 1066년 이 곳에서 잉글랜드와 노르만의 군대가 격돌했고, 이때의 승리를 발판으로 노르만인들이 앵글로-색슨 잉글랜드를 정복했기 때문이다. 이런 맥락에서 본 글은 노르만인들이 어떻게 헤이스팅스에서 승리할 수 있었는지를 검토하고, 그럼으로써 기억의 장소인 헤이스팅스의 역사적 의미에 대해 살펴본다.
Hastings: the Battle of Hastings and the Norman Conquest
This article aims to demonstrate the historical context and significance of Hastings in relation to Norman Conquest. Hastings is important in English history because of the Battle of Hastings, fought in 1066 between the Anglo-Saxon English and Norman armies. The victory of the battle led to the Norman conquest of England. In this context, this article shows how the Normans could win a victory at the Battle of Hastings, and the significance of Hastings as a historical site.
